  1. They say that you cannot live a life without making a difference to the world and the universe. In other words “You can’t stir a flower without troubling a star”
This definitely was the case with my friend and workmate Gil Morris.
Once Gil decided that he was going to do something he did not stop until he had finished the job. That was the way with Gil he has written about seven or eight books
and as far as I know he was still writing. He also used to write scripts with myself and Ronnie Twist and others over the years. He was not just a pretty face.
The first time that I came across Gil was when he turned up, back in the early seventies, at our place in Enfield with Mike “Standing Ovation” Spencer.
The Mardell Brothers had only been in the business professionally for about five years so this larger than life pair of “pro’s” burst onto our scene and into our lives was
to say the least, different. We became great friends and until the later years we have always spoken and worked together on a regular basis. As friends the things he did at parties I will leave Colin (God of television) Lewin to talk about for there were too many to write of here.
I suppose amongst the “pro’s” who new Gil well, his once a year April fool routine’s
became part of the business. Enough will have been said about Gil and his act from the Punch and Judy, to the throwing off of the wig, and being the first to appear on stag shows in the nude. What a character he was and will be sadly missed.
Going back to making a difference in life, I would like to put his part in this into perspective. In the October of 1978 Gil set up the very first game of golf with comedians at Badgemore Park Golf Club. This was roughly five months before he promoted the idea of all the comics getting together in the spring of 1979 at Crews Hill. In all 19 of us turned up and it was at that meeting the Comedians Golfing Society was born, at which we all put in £5 after the game to start the thing off.
Gil’s idea had been spawned, and as we all know what a difference that made to the world, and he never stopped working on it, whether he was in or out at the time was irrespective.
That Society he created turned over in its early years millions of pounds for people less fortunate than us. I have no doubt that some of the athletes appearing at the Paralympics this year owe some of it to Gil Morris. For instance we have just had the greatest Paralympics ever and that was partly due, in a way to the CGS sponsoring our Para- athletes at the Barcelona games, buying wheelchairs, and Chuckle buses, and Chuckle buggies. Yes, it was Jim Skinner who went out on our behalf to Barcelona to help administer the games, and by the same token, if Gil had not started the CGS then this small part of the development of the Paralympic’s would not have happened. He started the first Eclectic competition, the first draw tickets for a car, the first to get the CGS on television with the kidnapping of the flag, oh yes, and he was on the committee when 50% of the charity money raised was allocated for entertainment people in trouble to be helped out!
As I said at the beginning, what a difference he made to the world, he will be a great loss. Bless you mate.

  8. Well Ian obviously likes the site as he's said....3 times! This is my first go on the site as a relatively new member which looks great so congratulations.
A bit worried about going to the first meeting next month, as I have a sneeky suspicion that I'll be the next "joker of the month" for not having a good round...I feel like I could kick the ball further!

  10. Congratulations to Adger Brown for his Fantastic hole in one yesterday at Red Libbetts Golf Club, I only wish I had my camera with me to record the look of complete amazement on Adgers Face as he walked up to the green, first not knowing that the ball was in the hole, and then discovering that it was, I had the pleasure of playing with Adger, and witnessing that great HOLE IN ONE, then celebrating with everyone back in the club house as the Champagne corks popped, Well Done Adger.

  24. Colin, In answer to your appeal, I have heard that Ding will be giving you his Golf Clubs, news has just filtered through to me from Portugal, where Ding was recently playing Golf, apparently, he was well beaten on one of the days, NO NOT by one of the lads who were also there, But By Claudia, Tommy Dee's Partner.
Claudia, who took up the game just recently, played off the Ladies Tee's While Ding played off his Ladies handicap of 22, but according to my source some of the Clubs are badly damaged.

  25. It occurred to me some of you may be tired of giving the same old handkerchiefs
and socks at Christmas? or maybe you’re looking for that extra special gift for
someone special? So why not consider giving a “C.G.S. Draw ticket” this year
    to all your loved ones?

    Just think of the advantages?

They don’t cost a fortune to wrap
They won’t go off in the fridge
Everyone will deem to be treated equally
You won’t clash with Aunty Mabel’s present
There’s a nice picture of a ship on the front.
Oh and They may win a Cruise and meanwhile you could be playing a free game of
golf with the CGS if you sell the most
    Luv Colin x

P.S. Any other suggestions what makes this present so desirable?
